"Summer" in April
What a weird concept! After this past year as a freshman at Briercrest I am definitely ready to begin my summer break a good two and a half months earlier than normal. But seriously though, what a school year! With many highs, and a good share of lows, I can definitely say that spending my freshman year of college at Briercrest college and Seminary was beneficial and very worth while.
When I first created this blog I had committed to writing in it at least once a week. Of course though, as with many things, that idea went down the drain when I was flooded with more homework that I had ever seen during High School. My hope for this summer is to use this as a way, periodically, to keep many of my new friends (and all the old ones of course!) up to date with how life is going in good Ol' Peg city and any ways that you can be praying for me.
This year was quite the challenge, but truthfully I love challenges so I was up for this. I stumbled lots - mostly academically - but to say that I did not grow at all would be a lie. In so many areas, including my academics, I grew immeasurably (way more than I could have ever anticipated entering college). And in the end, in some ways, I think that that is what counts. In the end, our worth and, who we are as people, cannot be measured by the number we achieve on a grading scale of 100% but rather, seeing the areas we fall short and with that knowledge, learning how we can be better and then actually becoming better! Growth looks differently for so many people and even if a whole seven month school year has just been a baby step, or if it has been a life-changing exponentially growing experience then good on all of you! But before I start preaching on growth though let's go back to the actual point of this post.
Now where was I? Oh yes, sandwiches. haha sorry I just watched frozen. ANYWAYS, K so this year has been amazing and I know that the glory can only be given to the Lord for the progress I have made this year and I cannot wait to keep continuing down this path.
As I find myself drawing more and more into God I find myself becoming involved with ministry, which I have discovered this year to be a huge passion of mine. Youth ministry to be particular, but ministry in general is something that I really love. I spent this past year doing my first year of studies toward a B.A. in youth ministry which was a choice I am very glad that I followed the Lord into. I was also involved at Hillcrest Apostolic Church in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan with their junior youth program helping with the grade six girls, and also the grade sevens. Both of these areas have helped to grow and shape the passion and heart for ministry that God is developing within myself. Which is where today's post is actually going
My first week back home has been wonderful, and even more wonderful because I have started a youth internship with my former youth pastor for the whole summer (minus July so I can go and work at camp). I am so excited to be able to do this and already my first week has been a blast. To actually be at the church during the week has given me a whole new perspective on what ministry actually is and it is continuing to shape and grow the passion and heart that I have begun to have for ministry. I have realized, and have been humbled in the fact, that God's work is done even in the background jobs. The tedious, and the tough jobs. The ones many may not see as important. We better believe that the Lord sees these as important. This week many of my jobs were setting up tables and chairs and getting folders ready for classes but without those basic jobs, the other "big" jobs could not get done. Without someone to hole punch and put folders together for 60 people on a spiritual gifts class and set up all the chairs, the people would not have materials or chairs to sit on. Yes maybe they could stand and just orally take in what the preacher is saying but those small jobs make a huge difference in what the pastor is saying and how God's kingdom will be furthered, and I for one am honored to be able to contribute to God's kingdom in that way.
So to wrap up I will leave some prayer requests for the week:
-My internship would continue to go well and that God would smooth out all the beginning kinks.
-Unity within all the staff members at the church (this is not a problem but it is a great thing to be praying for)
-I would be able to find another part time job during Fridays-Mondays so I could get a little extra cash coming in to help me with expenses at Briercrest next year
-I would constantly be praying and pressing into the Lord and not get caught up with being too "busy" for Him
If you have made it all the way down here thank you so much for reading all of this.
Go in peace to love and to serve the Lord
Thanks be to God.
